Radiation Right: Protecting Patients

Radiation Right is a patient safety initiative across HCA affiliates, including Denton Regional. The idea behind Radiation Right is to make sure that you are getting the right exam, at the right time, with the right dose, with your safety in mind. We want to ensure that we are maximizing the benefits of using imaging technology while reducing potential radiation exposure risks.

Radiation reduction efforts focus on a few simple, but important concepts.

  1. Safety Checks. Our staff follows strict protocols to make certain the unnecessary procedures are not being performed.
  2. Smart Protocols. The main goal is to use the least amount of radiation needed to perform a procedure. This might include reduced doses of radiation or a smaller number of passes over an area of the body. We have various protocols for all forms of exams and machines.
  3. Dose Customization. We want to make sure that you are only exposed to the smallest amount of radiation needed to perform the test. We look at factors such as age, weight, medical history, body part being scanned, and number of exams. We take special care in working with pediatric patients and those who receive frequent scans.

The right exam, the right site, and the right dose are all goals that we aim to achieve. We want to do what is right for you, the patient. Please make sure to communicate with your providers. Let us know if you have other tests or exams scheduled. While we will ask questions about your medical history, always share any conditions that have required extra testing or imaging procedures. And if you ever have concerns, talk to a nurse, technician or doctor. We will gladly explain testing procedures. Your safety is our number one concern.
